Petition Title: | Petition Against Discrimination re. Primary Medical Certificate |
Submitted By: | Individual |
Petition Text: | My name is Michael Power and in March 2010 I was injured in a work related accident, which left me initially with a badly broken arm which developed into a devastating nerve condition called C.R.P.S. Type1 (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type1) leaving me with a deformed hand and constant chronic pain. This pain measures higher than any other chronic pain, including unmedicated childbirth, unmedicated digit ampuation and also terminal cancer , seeThe McGill Pain Scale.
As I haven’t been able to work since the accident our financial means are restricted, which is one of the reasons I initially applied for the Primary Medical Certificate.
I feel that there must be some level of common sense applied to particular applications, where it’s clearly obvious to a Medical Board of Appeal that the injuries presented to them are life long having already been adjudicated to be such by several Treating Medical Consultants
I have been awarded a lifelong disability of 80% for my injury from the Department of Social Protection and yet this accounts for very little. In my opinion this is a clear case of discrimination! My costs and limitations are the same as a person with a lower body disability, I even dare to say that I am affected much worse than most other cases due to the severity of my constant pain in addition to the actual disability.
I feel discriminated against and I will continue my fight for equality. |
