Current Details

Reference Number:P00021/16
Status:Petition Closed
Name of Petitioner:Mr. Michael Callanan
Petition Title:Investigate circumstances relating to flawed implementation of fishing legislation.
Submitted By:Individual
Petition Text:On 26/09/2012,petitioner notified the JC on Public Oversight on Petitions of reservations regarding flawed administration of a number of Schemes by the Department of Agriculture , Food, and the Marine, and on request submitted corroborative evidence to authenticate the claim. The Committee decided that this required a response from the relevant Minister. Despite numerous reminders, and in an effort to suppress the facts, the Department refused to respond until 22/10/2013.This consisted of a convoluted reply, which did not address the concerns raised .It was accompanied by copies of the relevant Acts (which ironically were identical with those on which the petitioner in the first instance, pointed out the discrepancies)and a 102 page VFM Review of the DE-commissioning Schemes 2005 and2008 , purporting to justify the Department's stance, whereas on examination it fully vindicated the claims made by the petitioner. Following on the Committee meeting of 29/11/2013, the Chairman, for obvious reasons, contrary to due process, decided to declare the petition "CLOSED". Correspondence subsequently forwarded on behalf of the Chairman contained serious inaccuracies, which conflicted with that given by individual Committee members, subsequently contacted. As the data relevant to the two test cases examined, is readily accessible, it would take an impartial independent individual less than two hours to adjudicate on the matter
