Petition Title:Restore Self Builds in Ireland - Revoke S.I. 9
Submitted By:Individual
Petition Text:We petition the Government of Ireland to listen to our pleas and revoke the restrictive legislation known as Statutory Instrument No. 9. This legislation states that to build a home, one must be a Principal or Director of a Building Company ONLY. A simple change of wording on the documents within this legislation would allow people who are not principals or directors of building companies to manage to build of their own homes. Self Building (the process whereby a person employs their own tradesmen and manages the build themselves) is a centuries old tradition in Ireland - under this legislation you can no longer self build. We see this legislation as extremely unjust and irrational as a self builder and a building contractor do exactly the same thing - we both study the plans, employ tradesmen, listen to the architect - there is one difference - the Building contractor gains a hefty profit! We need our voices heard and we plead with you now to help us, so that we can all work together and help Ireland fully recover, especially in light of the current housing crisis. Restore the right to build ones home by self building - A ROOF IS A RIGHT!
