Petition Title:Amendment to Irish Citizenship Act for great grandchildren
Submitted By:Individual
Petition Text:I am of the belief that not enough people born outside of Ireland, who's closest Irish born ancestor is a grandparent, knew about the foreign births register, therefore breaking the Irish citizenship bloodline for their children if they are born before the parent receives Irish citizenship, and now we are in 2019, not 1986, so both scenarios requiring the parent with the Irish grandparent to be an Irish citizen before their child's birth or before 1986 are not met, leaving the 4th generation child in an unfortunate position. In countries such as the United Kingdom, this was not a necessity as both British and Irish passports had the same benefits around the world, however because of Brexit, they won't - this leaves people who's closest Irish born ancestor at great grandparent level hard done by, as they could have applied had their parent known about foreign birth and met the requirements in order for their child to register - many people with an Irish born grandparent are shocked when informed they can apply for Irish citizenship.
