Petition Title:Non Compliant installations of Water Meter Boxes in vehicle access locations by Irish Water
Submitted By:Corporate Body
Corporate Name:Premier Plastics Ltd.
Petition Text:To request a review and to prevent the ongoing non compliant practice by Irish Water of installing Light Grade C load bearing capacity water meter boxes in public places as it poses a Health and Safety risk to the public. Department of the Environment directive BC6/2009 state that local authorities take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that:- “(A) Planning permissions clearly reference the class B standard for Covers/Frames to services in footpaths. “ Likewise BS5834 Part 2 Grade C standard states that, “Light Grade C surfaces boxes are for use in situations not intended for use by motor vehicles”. Furthermore the installation instructions of the imported water meter boxes presently being installed by Irish Water clearly state, that these boxes conform to BS 5834 Part 2 Grade C and are for use in situations not intended for use by motor vehicles. However all the above standards etc., are being ignored as the light Grade C boxes are only 30% of the load rating requirement of Grade B installations are being incorrectly installed around Ireland where vehicles have access. Irish Water are purchasing the boxes as a light Grade “C” box and are incorrectly changing the use of the boxes by ignoring standards etc. and fitting these light boxes in vehicle access locations, that require the heavier Grade “B” boxes. The installation of the light Grade C boxes do not comply with standards nor does it comply with installation instructions and is creating a Health and Safety risk.
