The long-term Illness scheme, established under section 59(3) of the Health Act 1970 prescribes 16 illnesses covered by the scheme. Can this scheme be reviewed to include all lifelong illnesses? I am on Eltroxin, not for an underactive thyroid which is typically the case for this drug, but because I no longer have a thyroid following thyroid cancer in 2012. I will be on this drug for life. I am also on other medications such as 'Constella' because my bowel doesn't perform efficiently post-cancer treatment. This is an unlicenced drug (doesn't come under the drugs payment scheme ) costing 150 euros per month. I wish to discuss whether all drugs that one is relying on for life will be included in the scheme. I would also like to discuss the possibility of a medical card being prescribed for all cancer patients and survivors, please. Thank you for reading my petition. |
