| Petition Text: | That the appeals process for the Financial Ombudsman's Office's be moved to an independent body to ensure that the Office of the Ombudsman is held to account and made to comply and/or demonstrate compliance with the obligations laid down under statute for that office.
That the conduct of appeals against the decisions of the Financial Ombudsman should not require the expense of a High Court challenge as the next step in dealing with cases as this means that challenging the ombudsman office decisions are beyond most citizens financial means. It also makes no sense on a cost benefit basis in most of the cases which are small in relative financial terms. When combined with the lack of a realistic appeals process it makes the Ombudsman's office unaccountable in any true sense. |
