Status:Petition Lapsed on the Dissolution of Dáil Éireann
Name of Petitioner:Ms Robyn Moore
Petition Title:The Right to Vote International
Submitted By:Individual
Petition Text:I feel as an Irish Citizen, born, raised, educated even a tax payer, I have the right to Vote. Due to the Greed of the Irish Government over the past decade, I was punished for their wrong doing. I was forced to immigrate after college, to further my career. I took immigrating upon myself as my best option, but yet I still suffer whenever the voting comes around. Other countries have dealt with a lot more particle solution to this. In Australia you have to Vote or you’re fined. Meaning, if you are out of the country you have to submit your vote at an embassy or via registered post. Why is this system not in place in Ireland? I want to vote about things happening in my country to my family, friends and peers. I will be home some day and I want the opportunity to make the difference with decisions as to who is in power, treaty’s and referendums that take place. It is my right to be able to do that! Just because I am across the water it shouldn’t be taken away. I know I am not the only person who feels strongly about this and I hope this is taken on board and considered. We did not go through years of rebellions and wars, to fight for the right to have our own government, country and freedom, so why should that right not be extended to citizens who want to vote.
