| Petition Text: | Following the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union, and the mounting desire of Northern Ireland and Scotland to leave the UK in response, we the people of Ireland would like to extend to our brothers and sisters in Northern Ireland, and Scotland an invitation to share in an equal, fair and democratic nation.
Given our strong national, cultural and traditionally ethnic ties with which the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland continue to share, we believe that a representative union based on equality and fraternity should be given fair consideration by our representatives in both the Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann.
Our desire for a unified nation, based upon the principles of equality and fairness, and upon a system of representative democracy not beholden to any permanent heads of state, containing no caveats or assumptions of status, is not a legally binding declaration of intent, but rather it is an overture to closer social, political and economic ties, and if the will of the people prevails, it is an overture to unity between our great peoples.
We, the people of Ireland, do solemnly ask for our stated desire to be received with the same humility and good intention with which it is offered. We ask that our representatives discuss this offer and that if good sense should prevail, this offer be extended to our brothers and sisters both in the North and in the far North, as an olive branch of peace, prosperity and unity. |
