| Petition Text: | “I support amending the Health Act of 1970 to legally entitle any child diagnosed with a serious illness or congenital condition to a full medical card for the duration of their illness”.
We launched our campaign on May 20th 2014 with a single objective ? that every child in Ireland with a serious illness or congenital condition would be afforded full eligibility for all publicly available health services for the duration of their illness, by way of a medical card. To that end, we launched our website and on-line petition - http://www.ourchildrenshealth.ie. To date, over 65,000 have signed this petition and the names of all signatories are printed and enclosed within.
We have done all we can to give the parents we have come to represent a voice, to highlight the distress caused by the existing application process and each refusal. In October, we published our own outline reform proposals ? detailing in a practical way how a reformed assessment process to take account of medical need could work (available on our website). We continue to engage with Government and do all we can to bring about the change we set out to achieve, with the support of over 65,000 Irish people. |
