Petition Title: | Disease Rates Linked To Central Heating Systems |
Submitted By: | Individual |
Petition Text: | Central Heating Systems were never connected to a householder’s water supply but from 2000 on a large percentage of plumbers started using single check non-return valves to link the CHS to the householder’s water supply. This provides a source of water to pressurise the heating system. Prior to this, a separate water tank in the attic was used to supply the CHS there are NO regulation on this issue. I have asked the Dept. Environment to inform the HSE and to make a public awareness campaign but i was informed that it’s not a public issue even with the possibility of 100,000+ households affected .Research indicates that chemicals and bacteria are leaking into the houses water supply and are being inhaled into the lungs via the shower . These valves are not fit for purpose some even have a leak tolerance, they can fail in the open position leading to cross contamination with houses water supply, but with self-certification and no regulations many plumbers continue this practice countywide.
At the same time, the Hse are reporting an ever-increasing level of disease rates where water can be the transmission route. HSCP reports also indicate that 30% of these outbreaks come from unknown sources .Lung disease rates in Ireland are one of the worst in Europe. I cannot prove what ill health inhaling the chemicals will cause- most products don’t indicate what’s in them, but it can’t be good to inhale inhibitors, descalers and leak treatments being used in the CHS.
