Teideal na hAchainí:Widening eligibility requirements for Irish Citizenship by descent (FBR)
Arna Cur Isteach Ag:Individual
Téacs na hAchainí:It's a common fact that most countries in the EU have strict immigration policies. Even though France, Hungary, Italy and Poland offer citizenship through descent. Most of it is met with challenges, for instance, in France, Germany, Sweden, etc.. you can only acquire citizenship if your parent(s) is a current citizen. With the exception of Hungary which lets you prove that your heritage and is not restrictive to any generation, will be enough to entitle you. As you know, In Ireland you need to submit an application through the Foreign Births Registry. While this may sound intriguing to some, The reality is that many Americans cannot get on the register because they are a generation too late to qualify. Also the citizenship wouldn't be passed down to your family, just you. . Ireland already has a fairly diverse population, but the Irish economy would thrive more and be more inclusive from a change to the Nationality and Citizenship Act of 1956. Im calling on the Oreichtas and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to amend this act, it's not my intention to ask them to make it so that all generations would be free to apply, just to open it up two more generations and give most people the chance to take advantage of this opportunity. Also I hope that if action is taken on this petition they include citizenship to be handed down to the family (Mother, Father and any siblings they may have.
